KALIBO, Aklan – The country’s flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) mounted a direct commercial flight to traveller favorite destination of Kalibo to Hong Kong on May 1.

PAL Kalibo manager Victor Reyes said PR290 carrying 156 passengers departed Kalibo International Airport (KIA) to Hong Kong on Tuesday afternoon.

The direct air route between Kalibo and Hong Kong will use PAL's biclass Airbus 320 aircraft, which has total seats of 156 – twelve in business class and 144 seats for economy class.

Reyes said the airline is optimistic of the tourism growth and the influx of travelers to Boracay Island and Aklan’s popular eco-sites.

“The airline will have future sales campaign with neighboring provinces like Antique, Capiz and Iloilo as well as Bacolod and Roxas cities to capture our target market of overseas Filipino workers with the new service via Kalibo to Hongkong,” Reyes stressed in an interview with RGMA DyRU Super Radyo Kalibo.

Reyes said Hong Kong-Kong bound passengers will have twice weekly flights from Kalibo to Hong Kong, every Tuesday and Friday, leaving KIA at 4:50 p.m. to accommodate holiday travelers.

A round-trip ticket to Kalibo-Hong Kong could cost P20,000.00 to include government taxes, he added.

PAL has become one of the most respected airlines around the world with a young and modern fleet of aircraft and a route network that spans 31 foreign cities and 29 domestic points.
